NYC COVID-19 positivity rate continues to drop
New York City’s COVID-19 positivity rate is continuing to plummet to levels not seen since before last year’s holiday surge.
The Big Apple had a 3.5 percent infection rate on a seven-day rolling average as of Sunday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a City Hall press briefing Tuesday.
Gotham’s coronavirus positivity rate has been below 4 percent over the past several days — and the last time the rate dipped under that figure before this week was back on Nov. 25 when it was at 3.85 percent, according to city data.
“We keep seeing progress,” the mayor said.
“We can see as the vaccinations continue to grow, COVID continues to recede.”
The number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations and new reported cases in the city are also continuing to drop.
According to the data, 140 people were admitted to city hospitals with suspected COVID-19 on Sunday and 42 percent of them tested positive for the bug.
The city’s seven-day rolling average of new virus cases was at 1,603, according to the data.
To date, the city has administered more than 6.2 million coronavirus vaccine shots.
